The Daily Mail claimed that the move, and the party, fit a wider pattern that Lownie describes as spending big even when money looked tight. Moreover, the report highlighted the contrast between Ferguson’s lifestyle and her claims of financial strain, including a Hello! Magazine cover story that drew attention to her home while she spoke about needing to focus on earning.
Lownie also details a costly household setup, which entails a large staff, major monthly rent, and hefty bills. Additionally, a former aide described how tense things could get behind the scenes, claiming, “Car journeys are the worst,” according to Lownie’s book. They added, “She will sit on the phone screaming at employees and reduce everyone to wrecks. Then she will wonder why we are so unhappy.”
Furthermore, a friend recalled Ferguson’s reaction to bad financial news. They claimed, “I have heard her throw an absolute screaming fit when one of her staff showed her a letter from the bank. She just doesn’t want to know.”
