April 17th marks the birthday of a true icon, Victoria Beckham. Most of us first met her as Posh Spice.

Victoria Caroline Adams was born on April 17, 1974, in Essex, England. She grew up with her parents and two younger siblings. Her parents worked hard to build a successful family business, which allowed Victoria to start dance lessons at age 4. She spent her childhood studying dance and musical theater, but school wasn’t always easy for her.

While she found schoolwork difficult, she truly shone in her art classes. She entered Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom in 1991 to study modeling and dance, and later attended St. Mary’s High School in Cheshunt. Eventually, she got into a music band called “Persuasion” until 1994, when she joined the “Spice Girls

Victoria rose to international fame in the mid-1990s as a member of the Spice Girls. While each member had a distinct persona, Victoria was Posh Spice. Spice Girls became the best-selling female group of all time having sold over 100 million records worldwide, the group achieved success with hits like “Wannabe” and “Say You’ll Be There” defining a generation.

In 1999, Victoria married professional soccer star David Beckham. The couple quickly became one of the most famous pairings in the world, often referred to by the media as “Posh and Becks.” Despite the intense spotlight, Victoria used her platform to explore her interests in style and beauty, eventually deciding to leave the music industry to pursue her true passion in fashion.

In 2001, she released her self-titled first solo album and an autobiography, Learning to Fly, and it became a best seller in Britain. Then she launched her own eponymous clothing line in 2008, which won the prestigious Designer Brand of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards 2011, and later founded the cosmetics and skincare brand Victoria Beckham Beauty in 2019.

Today, Victoria Beckham is a mother of four and the head of a multi-million dollar fashion and beauty empire.
